10th Lit - Cultural Cornucopias Blog Postings
August 14, 2007
Our theme in English this year revolves around the idea of a “cultural corncucopia” (you know, those horn-like things you see at Thanksgiving with the fruit spilling out?) What I’d like for each of you to do is to brainstorm 3 of your personal “cultures.” I, for example, am a part of a teaching culture, a musical culture, and a mommy culture. Once you think of your cultures, briefly describe your role in each one and why each culture is an important part of your life.
This shouldn’t exceed 10 sentences total. Please post your response by clicking below on “comments.” ALL RESPONSES MUST BE POSTED BY 3:30 ON FRIDAY, January 11th TO RECEIVE FULL CREDIT.

I come from many different cultures. The first culture that come to mind is weird. You see my family is out of this world, exciting, different and not normal. The second thing that comes to mind is friends. To have friends you have to be a friend. So i am a friend that my friends can turn to and look for help. The final culture i come from is ME! See me is a very great culture, because i have my time and my time to think of what needs to be done. In this area i get to be me and not have to worry about what other people are doing and/or talking about.

All the people in the world are part of individual cultures. I feel that I am included in three specific cultures. I am included in the student culture because I am a student at the wonderful Kell High School with a bunch of other kids I know. Also, I’m included in the ever popular teenager culture because I am one and I represent it well. Finally, I am included in the golf culture because I play the sport and I am very passionate about it.

Three cultures that I’m mainly involved with are: Art Culture, Musical Culture, and Teenage Culture. I am binded with the Art Culture because it is what I have been focusing on to accomplish…pretty much all my life. I’ve been building my skill each day that I can, with new challenges; to work with paint one day, or even to draw my brother in his usual status rather than as a typical man with glasses. I’d stretch out each skill that I find that needs more uplifting in, since as well, my mother, is depending on me to be the artist that I can.
Similarly, why I’m with such passion and consideration with Musical culture, is my skills on the piano. I’ve been playing for five years, I have achieved the intermediate skill level and as well have matured with my love for individual sounds of music. My start and importance is basically of a second course that I would do if not to succeed well in my artistic creativity in Art. I’d branch happily, with great effort, onto my music in College.
And lastly, I am entwined with the Teenage Culture. I’ve been feeling older than I think but my maturity level has only been in my mind, where as my actions are still not fully there. We have our free ride right now it seems, of course there are fees every once in awhile, but what we have is a time to build up to the top of the coaster and start another loop in adulthood soon after our Senior year. Some start sooner than most or remain to be even before still undone. Though in reality we are all still going to be the children in the sandbox.
